Good afternoon all. It was a warm humid morning here. I managed to get a ton of limestone loaded in the boat, and took it out to one of my creeks. I'm still not real thrilled with this new motor, but it does get me out faster with a load. I can get the boat up on a plane, and then back off on the throttle just enough to keep it up. That way, it doesn't use much more gas than the old motor did. The old motor wouldn't get the boat on a plane with a ton. I might get it up with 1600-1800lbs, but I would have to keep it about full throttle and stay in shallow water, less than three feet. If I had to go in deeper water, it would drop down, and wouldn't plane. I made it back in, and went by the dock to check on the market for tomorrow. I was almost back to the house when it started raining. It was lunch time anyway, so maybe it will be over by the time I finish. The rain and cloud cover dropped the temp from the low 80s to 77. The sun is trying to come back out now, but scattered showers are predicted for the rest of the afternoon.

Stan, we have a fellow here that picks up brass at our local range. I might have to work out a deal with him too. I almost never see 303 British here, but he is there when I'm not, so he might find some for me. I have several ammo cans of 30-06, 308Win, and .223 that I have picked up. I have it polished, sorted and bagged by manufacturer, and some of it deprimed and sized.

The afternoon didn't go as smoothly as I had hoped. Tomorrow will be the last day I get to go dredging this season, so I was getting the boat ready. The last thing I did was clean out the water strainers on the intakes for the engines. I was opening the last one, when the bolt that clamps the top on broke at the base. It's one of those deals where I know I have a spare...somewhere...It isn't even a regular bolt. It is a flat piece of brass with threads on one end for a wing nut, and a roll pin through a hole in the other end to anchor it and still let it swivel. I called several marine suppliers in Charleston and Mt Pleasant with no luck. They could order one and have it here next week. The season ends Sunday. I finally found a brass bolt the right length. It was a pivot bolt for a set of clam tongs, but with a torn rotator cuff that never healed right, I doubt I will be doing much tonging anymore. I cut the head off the bolt and ground it flat on both ends so it would fit in the slots on the body of the strainer and the slot in the lid, drilled a hole in the bottom and put it back together. I had just ordered a roll pin punch set from Brownells for working on the latest M-16 I am building. It had come in the day before yesterday, so I had all the tools I needed.

I had to go to Georgetown to see the end of school year program that Bill's daycare was putting on at seven, so I had to stop working while I went to that. I got it all back together when I got back, so I am ready for tomorrow.

Tom, nothing ever goes like you think it should, does it. I am far enough from the stores that carry what I need that it is a pain even if they have what I need in stock.
