I have a problem and hopefully some of you might have suggestions to help. Ruby (the 90 something widow next door) is going down hill fast. She doesn't bathe and wears the same clothes for weeks. She stinks. I know a nurse who will come by to check and assist her with bathes and laundry, houskeeping but the problem is convincing Ruby that she needs help. My approach would be to just tell her she smells like she shit her pants but I don't think that would be prudent. How does a guy tell an old lady that she is rapidly approaching senility in a way that doesn't piss her off? My idea is to have the nurse come by a few times a week. to assist Ruby in and out of the bathtub and help with other needs. The nurse cared for my grandma for 3 years before she died so she is trustworthy. The hard part is that Ruby doesn't trust anyone except me and my wife. I think maybe a slow and easy introduction to the nurse is required. Becky (the nurse) is very good with old people. She does much more than nursing, cleaning the house, laundry, cooking, etc.
I have to do something soon before one of the neighbors calls DHS. Then it will nursing home time and I promised Ruby that won't ever happen.
