I have a problem and hopefully some of you might have suggestions to help. Ruby (the 90 something widow next door) is going down hill fast. She doesn't bathe and wears the same clothes for weeks. She stinks. I know a nurse who will come by to check and assist her with bathes and laundry, houskeeping but the problem is convincing Ruby that she needs help. My approach would be to just tell her she smells like she shit her pants but I don't think that would be prudent. How does a guy tell an old lady that she is rapidly approaching senility in a way that doesn't piss her off? My idea is to have the nurse come by a few times a week. to assist Ruby in and out of the bathtub and help with other needs. The nurse cared for my grandma for 3 years before she died so she is trustworthy. The hard part is that Ruby doesn't trust anyone except me and my wife. I think maybe a slow and easy introduction to the nurse is required. Becky (the nurse) is very good with old people. She does much more than nursing, cleaning the house, laundry, cooking, etc. I have to do something soon before one of the neighbors calls DHS. Then it will nursing home time and I promised Ruby that won't ever happen. Terry in OKC

Really a sad situation, but sooner or later everyone's clock runs down. Especially sad when the mind goes first. On a brighter note, I heard from the high school girls who contacted me for help with their trebuchet project. For a passing grade they needed 10 feet, and threw 31.5. Congrats to the girls. Terry, sounds like the next door lady is already on a good down hill slide. My mother was always prim and propper, but when the dimentia hit her it was just amazing the contradiction in her personality, she had a "didn't give a damn" attitude when told about things. This is a time in life when the elderly get ripped off by the family without them even knowing it. Watch Ruby's back in such situations. Good luck, as there is no easy way to do this. Kevin in Or.

The messed with the proportions and made the short lever arm too short, then layered on the weight to compensate. I used 15 lbs, looks like 30 there. I threw 60 feet plus, they threw 31.5. Disregard the Master at your peril. I found some codes to write with European accents. Trébuchet is the proper French spelling. Tom in SoCal

Heck of a lightening storm last night, not a drop of rain but high winds and lightening lit up the sky with the accompanying thunder. We don't get much lightning around here. The high winds blew up so much dust, dirt, pollen, leaves, cotton wood tree fluff that you couldn't see but a quarter of a mile. I did not turn off the AC and open the windows like I usually do last night way to much crap in the air even after the storm passed. I'm off to Houston for two weeks tomorrow morning. 60 hours of class room and shop training in one week then I get to do part two the next week. Training runs Sunday through Friday 10 hours a day, with homework. I get overtime for the extra hours but it will still be a tough couple of weeks. Training is on coatings from the National Association of Corrosion Engineers NACE. Covers everything from paint to chrome to galvanizing to concrete, glass, and plastic coating of tanks, oil refinery equipment bridges etc. Sand blasting, etching, water blasting, testing measuring and so much more. There will be no time for partying I'm afraid, not that I'm a big partyer. Anyway after the training I'm flying down to Port Isabel on the Gulf coast to see an old Navy buddy I haven't seen in 30 years. He has a sailboat so we are going out in the Gulf for a couple of days. I've already got my seasick pills as I am very susceptible to motion sickness. Anyway no computer available for the next 2 1/2 weeks so I'll see you when I get back. The mexican ladies wear almost no clothes. I try not to obviously stare but when confronted with a good boob shot I can't help but stop dead in my tracks. Good thing all their husbands are out pouring concrete or mowing lawns. It took me over an hour to get home. Every time I went around a block to come home I saw another garage sale. In all that time I didn't buy anything although one place had a nice John Deere tractor but I have no use for it. Tom it looks like the girls out thunk ya. Terry in OKC

See if they hit it off or maybe it will give your neighbor a reason to clean herself up. If you know any of her sons or daughters, might be a good time to put a bug in their ear too. Picking up my Mauser 1914 pocket pistol tomorrow. Found a couple of boxes of 32ACP at our local Wally World, and believe it or not they still have one box left along with some 25ACP.
