Hello, all. I just got back from my road trip with my four year old grandson. He is a good traveler. We spent the weekend at my mom's, helping her, and she was glad to see Bill. On the way up, we stopped at a gun show/Civil War show in Columbia, SC. I know Tom would have been there if he were still around. Not long after we got there, they had a demonstration with some re-enactors shooting a couple of volleys with muskets, and then a demonstration firing the cannon. They went through the preparation and loading procedure. Bill was impressed and paid attention enough that he could repeat the entire procedure. He didn't like it when they fired it, though. He was sitting on my shoulders, and even though he had his ears covered, I could feel him jump. It set off car alarms in the parking lots in front of and behind it. I got him a miniature replica cannon at the show, and he didn't let go of it the rest of the day. He practised swabbing out the barrel and tamping the powder and shot, and explained it to anyone that would listen to him. We got a lot done at my mom's, and although it was raining when we left, wwe ran out of it in a few minutes, and had dry roads the rest of the way home.

I saw DOGolden, one of our club members there. He had a table set up, and while I was there talking with him, he bought a nice Argentine Mauser from a walk-in. I don't have one, and this one was in excellent condition with a shiny, but somewhat worn bore. If he hadn't bought it, I would have. He put it up for sale after he got it, but I hadn't really been planning to get anything, so I didn't have a lot of extra cash with me. I wasn't far down the road when I wished I had made him an offer. I have been kicking myself all weekend for not getting it when I had the chance. That's what I get for thinking too hard.

The supply of reloading componants must be comming back. It was mid afternoon when I got there, and one of the vendors still had three boxes of small rifle primers. I got one for insurance, but at $30 a box, I will try to get a group buy with a couple of my friends from one of the suppliers. They are still listing the powder and primers a lot cheaper than I have seen at the gun shows.
