Good morning all. I just got in from planting clams. It was much nicer out on/in the water than it is here on the hill. It isn't as bad as the weekend was,
but it is 87 now at 1130, heading for low to mid 90s this afternoon. I mowed some after church yesterday, and within a half hour I had sweat dripping off my
sleeves. I got the grass in the garden mowed, so now I can get some tilling done. I have watermelon plants that I started in pots that are at least six feet
long and need to get in the ground. My sweet potatoes need to get in the ground too. I have been too busy with the clams to keep up with the garden. I picked a
basket of snap beans yesterday evening, and got them snapped. I will get them frozen tonight. It was too late to go through blanching and cooling and vacuum
packing them last night.
Got to get back to work now, y'all have a good day. |

It isn't as hot today as the past few days.I am kinda cooling my heels while the guy finishes laying tile on the front porch and Florida room.He brought
his 12 year old son with him so I hired the son to cut the grass while his daddy does the tile. That way the old fart gets to sit inside and play on the
computer.

Bob mentioned vacuum sealing. Has anybody got one of the Reynolds vacuum sealers? It is an inexpensive unit that is about the size of a norelco electric
razor. It takes special bags but they aren't any more expensive than regular ziploc or glad bags. How it works is just put the stuff in the bag and there
is a blue spot on the bag that the sealer goes on and sucks the air out. I have one of the expensive vacuum sealers which seems to be a pita to use. This
thing is way better. Much easier to use. I think Step said the unit was about $12. We have 2, one in reserve. I haven't even had to change the
batteries on the first one after about 6 months of constant use. Quart and gallon bags.

That Vac sealer sounds great. I need to check into one.
We had a front come through and cool things off. Highs in the mid 80s with lows in the 60'. Hang on though it will be hot and humid again soon. |

Terry, I have the Food Saver brand. I do meat and vegetables with it, but you are right, it is a PITA at times. Some things like broccoli have to be at least
partially frozen or the juices gets sucked out and the bags don't seal. That Reynolds vacuum sounds interesting.
I froze some stuff in Ziploc bags and some in vacuum bags a year or two ago, and the vacuum packed ones did better. It makes a noticeable difference.
